Faculty Appointment in Human Genetics and Genomics at the New York Genome Center

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) invites applications for a Core Faculty Member position in all areas of human genetics or genomics. We encourage applicants who seek to develop innovative approaches to generate and interpret human genetic and genomic data, understand the functional consequences of genomic variation, develop new methods in statistical or population genetics, discover the genetic underpinnings of clinical phenotypes, and/or advance personalized and precision medicine. The candidate's research interests should be synergistic with the highly collaborative environment at NYGC, including our diverse Faculty, Technology Innovation, Computational Biology, and Sequencing Labs. Core Faculty Members are encouraged to interact and collaborate across the New York research community, and appointments at NYGC are typically coupled with a tenure-track faculty appointment with one of our Institutional Founding Members (https://www.nygenome.org/about-us/member-institutions/), which will be negotiated during the recruitment process.

The NYGC Faculty comprises an exceptional group of primary basic science faculty with research interests spanning human genetics, computational biology, functional genomics, single cell analysis, neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disease, cancer genomics, and genome engineering (http://www.nygenome.org/labs/). Current faculty hold joint appointments with departments at NYC-area institutions such as Weill Cornell Medical College, Columbia University, New York University, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Candidates must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree, and have an outstanding research record. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a description of previous research and future research plans (up to 3 pages total), reprints of two publications, three letters of reference and a statement of how they have and will support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in science (1 page). We strongly encourage applications from under-represented minorities, women, protected veterans and individuals with disabilities. Application materials should be uploaded before April 1 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.

The successful applicant will bring a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion in academic science, and will embrace the importance of mentoring in the scientific growth and professional development of trainees. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the core mission at the NYGC. We strive to create a workplace environment that is welcoming and fair to all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, or religion. We believe that when people of various backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives work together in an inclusive and equitable environment we gain new and valuable perspectives that otherwise would have been missed. Valuing and supporting all NYGC employees as individuals while helping them realize their full potential is critical to promoting greater collaboration, innovation, and discovery – fostering a sense of belonging for our greatest strength, our people. We recognize that there is still work to be done that will require sustained commitment from the entire organization.

The New York Genome Center is a VEVRAA Federal Contractor. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic predisposition or carrier status, protected veteran or military status, domestic violence victim status, partnership status, caregiver status, alienage or citizenship status, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. The New York Genome Center takes affirmative action in support of its policy to hire and advance in employment individuals who are minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
