Clinical Faculty in Fashion and Retail Studies, Assistant/Associate

University. The Department of Human
Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State
University invites applications for a full-time (9-month) clinical faculty position at the Assistant
Professor or Associate Professor rank in Fashion and Retail Studies (FRS) to
complement and extend our existing expertise and contribute to our program. We
seek individuals who can increase the breadth of teaching and outreach efforts
of our fashion and retail studies program and create linkages with related programs
within our unit, across campus, as well as across universities. This position
will begin in August of 2021. The successful candidate
will primarily teach courses in our fashion and retail studies undergraduate
degree program. We seek candidates with expertise in teaching undergraduate
coursework devoted to international retailing, digital retailing/analytics, corporate
social responsibility, apparel product development, social psychology of
appearance, or textiles. The candidate may be offered opportunities to teach
courses in our fashion and retail studies graduate degree program. The position
also involves engagement in curriculum development, student recruitment,
opportunity to advise and direct graduate students, and the opportunity to
collaborate with colleagues to further develop the masters degree program in
fashion and retail studies. Additional expectations include service to the
department (including the industry advisory board), college, and the community,
and performance of administrative duties as needed. The successful candidate
should possess and apply current knowledge of research affecting practice
within the field of fashion and retail studies, though conducting original
research is not a major responsibility of this position. Qualifications: Candidates
with an earned doctorate in FRS are strongly preferred. Broad areas of
expertise that complement fashion and retail studies will be considered,
including but not limited to fair trade, sourcing, social responsibility,
sustainability, health and wellness, management, fashion business
entrepreneurship, or business. The successful candidate must be interested in
applying their expertise to the fashion and retail industry. The candidate selected
for this position must demonstrate the ability to meet eligibility requirements
to work in the United States by August 2021. Experience working in the
fashion/retail industry and with industry partners is desired. Preference will
be granted to candidates who demonstrate excellence in advancing diversity,
equity and inclusion in their teaching and service agendas and who offer robust
evidence of sustained impact. The Department welcomes

and Retail Studies: The Fashion and Retail Studies program
currently has four full-time lecturers and a clinical associate professor, with
robust enrollments in undergraduate classes. An active industry advisory board regularly
engages with the program and the faculty. At the graduate level, the program is
part of the Hospitality and Retail Management specialization in the Consumer
Sciences Graduate Program, with Ph.D. and MS degrees offered. Resources
available in the FRS program include the Historic Costume & Textiles
Collection, a scholarly and artistic resource of apparel and textile material
culture. The 11,500+ holdings encompass a range of three-dimensional objects
such as textiles and articles of clothing and accessories for men, women, and
children, including national dress costume, from the mid-18th century to

The department has a faculty of 53 tenure-track faculty, four clinical
faculty, and 20 full-time lecturers.
Faculty have funding with grants from local, state, and federal
organizations such as NSF, NIH, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Faculty
also have funding from a host of industry- and community-based organizations.
In FY 2020, The Department of Human Sciences was awarded $9.2 million in grants
and had $5.1 million in research expenditures. Ten graduate majors and nine
undergraduate majors are housed within the department; students may choose from
36 curricular options. During the 2019-2020 academic year,
total course enrollments in the Department of Human Sciences included 26,118 enrollments
from undergraduate students and 1,303 enrollments from graduate students. In addition to our highly-qualified
faculty, we have full-time staff members, part-time lecturers and graduate
assistants to support the department’s academic mission. These talented
