Position Summary

The neutrino group in the Michigan State University Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking qualified applicants for a postdoctoral research position on the Tokai-to-Kamioka (T2K) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) experiments.

The T2K experiment is currently running in Japan and has an exciting program of neutrino oscillation physics, neutrino interaction measurements and exotic physics searches. The MSU group, led by Prof. Kendall Mahn, has a prominent role in oscillation and cross section analyses with T2K data, including the ongoing efforts to perform a joint analysis with NOvA and Super-Kamiokande collaborations. The group is also integral to the first measurements of pion interactions with ProtoDUNE, and in the design and realization of the DUNE near detector (DUNE PRISM and LAr prototyping). In addition, the MSU group is involved in testing of DUNE cold electronics. Finally, the accelerator-based neutrino group from extensive technical infrastructure and close connections to the high energy collider (ATLAS), particle astrophysics (IceCube, HAWC), nuclear (NSCL, FRIB), and astronomy and astrophysics groups in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

The successful candidate will take a leading role in T2K oscillation and/or cross section analyses and be key to the success of the DUNE ND prototype program, including hardware responsibilities. Significant travel to Japan or Fermilab (~months/year) is possible, subject to the COVID situation. Research associates will also assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
