Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor


Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
The Clinical Nutrition Future Graduate (FG) Future Education Model (FEM) Demonstration Program Cohort 3 in the School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Clinical Professor position. The program just received Candidacy status from ACEND in May 2020. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position and the first cohort begins August 2020 academic on a trimester academic calendar. Faculty rank and title are contingent upon the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.

The faculty at University of the Pacific are responsible for providing all aspects of didactic and clinical education for the Programs. Faculty members are integral in all activities of the program and participate in many areas by instruction and by example. Teaching is the primary focus of faculty at the University. We aspire to promote student-centered learning within a humanistic environment such that students are enthusiastic about providing scientifically-based, patient-centered nutrition care. The role of the instructional faculty within the University of the Pacific is to provide instruction as assigned in areas of knowledge and
expertise; six courses per academic year.

The mission of the Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition FG FEM Program is to provide a graduate level, student-centered, interprofessional Nutrition and Dietetics education that is integrated with leadership, innovative supervised experiential learning and research experiences that prepares students to become skilled and compassionate registered dietitian/nutritionist professionals who practice comprehensive clinical nutrition care using an evidence-based approach within competency-based education.

Scholarship and research are also valued at University of the Pacific. The Clinical Nutrition Programs are committed to strengthening research through the “development of, and support for, collaborative research and practice-based/applied research.” The intent of this effort is not only to increase the discovery and dissemination of knowledge, but also to focus on faculty and student scholarship and research as part of the University's overall educational mission.

Non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate in fulfilling the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities.

Clinical appointments are made upon the recommendation of the department faculty where appropriate to an academic program. The clinical appointment is non tenurable. A prefix such as “clinical”, or suffix such as “of Practice”, or other appropriate prefix or suffix, will be designated for these appointments, full-time or part-time. (FHB 7.1.4). A Clinical appointment utilizes specialized skills and experience in a certain professional field and is mainly responsible for teaching related duties and at times Service and Research aspects if expected by the School.

1. Design and conduct educational programs and courses of instruction in accordance with the policies of the University

2. Actively participate in the comprehensive planning or review of the development and quality improvement of the educational programs and courses of study, assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs and courses, and to make recommendations to the Deans and Provost concerning the educational mission, programs, and policies of the University

3. Recommend educational policies and degree requirements which effectively carry out the mission of the University, within the policies of the University

4. Recommend student admissions standards, evaluate student admissions procedures, assess student academic progress, and recommend student candidates for earned degrees.

5. Participate in the selection, evaluation, and advancement of faculty and academic administrators

The faculty member may consider any matter in connection with the effectiveness and quality of the educational program or the professional welfare of the faculty, may make recommendations to the department chair, academic dean or provost concerning any policies, programs, or procedures which affect the educational program or faculty welfare.

Each school and college in the University may have a faculty of its own consisting of all members of the University faculty within the particular school or college and subject to the approval of the Provost, adopt by-laws and rules concerning its own organization, governance, and procedures.

Each such faculty shall function under the Dean and Provost and be subject to the policies of the University faculty.


Minimum Qualifications:
• Credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
• Master’s degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field with significant clinical nutrition experience
• Teaching experience at the college/university level, with experience in course instruction and design and course evaluations
• Superior written, oral and interpersonal communications skills needed to work with diverse student, faculty, preceptor and administrative populations
• Have a desire to create and sustain a culture of student support and success
• Thorough understanding of ACEND regulations pertaining to supervised clinical experiential learning
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills, specifically MS Office Suite Programs (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Outlook.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Prefer a terminal degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field with significant clinical nutrition experience (PhD, DCN, DrPH) or other terminal degree (EdD) plus a degree in nutrition
• Intention to complete a terminal degree
• Academic experience Clinical Nutrition Education, to include curriculum development.
• Knowledge of ACEND Future Education Model Graduate standards and competency based education Miller model
• Strong CN teaching experience
• Minimum of two years of professional higher education teaching experience
• Sincere desire for personal growth and development as an educator, including teaching, scholarship, and service throughout the course of your career
• Desire to teach and learn from students in all phases of the curriculum, using a humanistic educational model
• Involvement or desire to be involved in professional organizations within the field of specialty
• Involvement or desire to participate in professional education beyond the school, on local, state, regional, national, and international levels
• Understanding of supervised dietetic practice from the educator role
• Ability to work as a team with administrators, fellow faculty, staff, and students
