The Department of Sociology at Duke University invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate to work with faculty interested in any of the following areas: crime, law, and justice; child welfare; the life-course; health disparities; and inequality, broadly defined. In addition to pursuing their own research agenda, we seek applicants with experience with survey design or working with state agencies to gain access to administrative data. Successful candidates will have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline before the appointment date.
The initial one-year appointment will ideally begin August 1, 2021, although the appointment could begin as late as January 1, 2022, if necessary to allow for degree completion, with the possibility of renewal for up to two or three years based on satisfactory performance. In addition to a competitive annual salary and the opportunity for significant collaboration both with Dr. Wildeman and with other members of the domestic and Danish research teams, the Postdoctoral Associate will also have access to office space, computer equipment, and travel/research funds.
Qualifications:
● Ph.D. in a social scientific field or related field (e.g., data science)
● Experience with survey design and/or working with state agencies on data access
● Demonstrated proficiency with statistical programs such as R or STATA
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a research team
