The Department of Theater Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences at Brandeis University invites applications for a tenure-track position in stage movement, physical theater, and/or dance at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in academic year 2022-2023. This position is subject to budget approval.

We seek candidates who are practicing artists with multidisciplinary approaches to physical theater, movement, and/or dance creation. We are especially interested in candidates who can extend the department's courses into one or more of the following new areas: non-Western movement techniques and methodologies, histories of global dance/movement, dance ethnography, and/or dance anthropology. Candidates with demonstrated commitments to producing innovative creative work/research in the areas of theater movement, dance, and/or choreography and to teaching in a liberal arts setting are encouraged to apply. Duties include the teaching of undergraduate courses such as physical theater, devising dance theater, world dance, histories of global dance, movement for actors and performers, modern and contemporary dance, choreography/movement composition, introduction to dance, mask and clowning, hip hop, Alexander Technique, Lecoq movement, Butoh, Feldenkrais, Gaga, Kabuki, Suzuki, and/or yoga for performers; undergraduate mentoring and thesis advising; contributing to the Theater Arts production season and public programming; and university and departmental service. The course load is 2/2.

Candidates should have a terminal degree (MFA and/or PhD) or equivalent achievement in physical theater, stage movement and/or dance, with a minimum of three years of college/university teaching experience, by July 1, 2022. Applicants should submit a cover letter; curriculum vitae; sample of creative work; and names and contact information for three referees. The cover letter should outline the applicant's interest in teaching diverse students in a liberal arts setting, as well as their experiences with and approaches to artistic practice/creation.
