Research Scientist responsible for leading field-based ecohydrological experiments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The research scientist will have a key role in current and future field experiments focused on water storage and flows in soil, plant, and atmospheric environments. The position requires mastery of technical methods involving stable isotope tracers, time domain reflectometry, soil lysimetery, and micrometeorology. Other required skills include abilities to perform data analyses, create complex figures and tables, and lead peer-reviewed publications. The position requires overnight travel for fieldwork and scientific meetings. Opportunities exist to contribute to or lead proposals for future research funding. The research associate will collaborate with students, postdoctoral researchers, and researchers from Duke University and other institutions.

Other Duties:

The research scientist is expected to participate in education and outreach activities aimed at broadening participation from underrepresented groups in the environmental sciences. Example activities include guest lecturing at minority serving institutions, assisting with field courses designed to broaden participation, and interacting with visiting faculty from tribal colleges and universities.

Qualifications:

The position requires a PhD plus additional postdoctoral experience in the environmental sciences. The position also requires experience conducting and leading fieldwork activities at remote field sties. Prior teaching experience (including guest lecturing) is preferred. The position includes substantial driving associated with field experiments.
