Occupational Summary This 14-month research associate position supports the work of the Everything Happens Initiative, a faith and media project devoted to research, storytelling, and spiritual formation. The mission of the project is to develop language and foster a digital community around kindness, courage and compassion. The research associate supports the work of the project through research strategy, implementation, and dissemination of findings/content into actual communities, congregations, and denominations. The goal of the research is to imagine how Duke Divinity School and Everything Happens might better equip and resource those already serving in ministerial capacities to deepen their sense of connection to one another and the communities they serve.

Work Performed Funded by The Duke Endowment in partnership with Duke Divinity School and the Everything Happens Initiative, the position will: • Strategize ways to disseminate content from The Everything Happens project into actual communities. • Help work on projects that bridge the Everything Happens project with Duke Divinity School. • Reach mainline denominations, bridging the Everything Happens Project with North Carolina churches and the Methodist denomination. • Research modern expressions of how the themes of the Everything Happens project – precarity, suffering, loneliness, humility, acceptance – find expression in popular culture and contemporary churches.

Qualifications and Experience Position requires a Th.D. or Ph.D. in Religion, Theology, or a closely related field. Departmental Preferences Applicants with doctoral level research experience in American religious history, sociology, or digital humanities will receive preferential consideration.
