The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University

Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Instructor position in the Biological Sciences beginning Fall 2022. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses and labs, advise students, and direct honors theses. Average teaching load is 7-8 courses per year. The Wilkes Honors College (WHC), which opened in 1999, is a highly selective liberal arts and sciences college within a state university, located on FAU’s MacArthur Campus in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. The campus is an international hub for scientific research and is host to the world-renowned research institutes Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, and Scripps Research Institute Florida, along with FAU’s Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute. In addition, FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is located in nearby Fort Pierce. The WHC’s four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and cross-disciplinary programs. Currently, the WHC enrolls 690 honors students and has 42 full-time honors faculty members. As part of the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the WHC will increase the size of its student body and grow its faculty over the next several years. See www.honorscollege.edu. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences, evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Additional requirements include an ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members as well as a demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences. Candidates with experience in genomics, bioinformatics, or computational biology are encouraged to apply. The committee will view favorably potential for collaboration in the interdisciplinary teaching activities of the college, experience in advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and a commitment to fostering diversity on the campus.
