The Department of Physics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong has multiple openings for postdoctoral positions in Prof. Renbin Yan’s research group, with different research directions for each position. Prof. Yan’s research focuses on the physics of the interstellar medium in galaxies and astronomical instrumentation. We are leading the development of the prototype spectrograph for the Affordable Multiple Aperture Spectroscopy Explorer (AMASE) project. AMASE is a planned project to conduct integral field spectroscopy observations over a large contiguous sky area for the study of star formation feedback and galaxy evolution (see arXiv:2105.11471). We are looking for candidates with different skills and research interests, including astronomical instrumentation, developments of data reduction and analysis pipelines, and observational studies of the ISM physics using data from SDSS-IV/MaNGA and AMASE. Candidates with skills and interests on any of these subjects are welcome to apply. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered.

Initial appointment will be for 2 years, renewable to 3 years depending on satisfactory performance. Extensions beyond 3 years are dependent on performance and funding availability.

Applicants should submit an online application here at AJO by the deadline, including a cover letter, CV, a publication list, and a research statement describing past research and future plans (3 pages max), together with the names and e-mail addresses of at least three references who have agreed to provide letters of recommendation for the applicant. The reference letters should be uploaded by the letter writers through the online application by the same deadline. The positions are open until filled.
