Who we are:

The Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS) and its newly established Data Justice Lab focuses on applying cutting-edge methods from Data Science and Machine Learning to challenging problems in social sciences. By studying biases in technology, health, education, and other social domains through Data Science, the Justice Lab aims to identify creative solutions for social justice.

What we want:

TAMIDS is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who support research activities and pilot projects carried out by members of the Data Justice Lab; help with the organization of community building activities; and assist with the day-to-day operation of the lab. The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Engineering, with experience in human-centered work, social media analytics, and/or social-oriented applications of data analysis, and experience with grant writing. We seek to hire a team player who will promote collaboration and cooperation while leading and when working within a team. Required Education and Experience:

Appropriate PhD Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong programming skills and demonstrated expertise in machine learning Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams Good communication skills Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

PhD in computer science, informatics, or computational social sciences, or related area in Data Science. Experience with human-centered research, social media analytics, and/or social-oriented applications of data analysis. Prior experience with grant writing.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds. Responsibilities:

Research: Performs original high-quality research within the multidisciplinary collaborative groups in Data Justice Lab. Applies methods of Data Science to problems in human-centered and social-oriented data-driven research Works collaboratively with members of the lab on research activities and pilot programs. Produces publications, conference papers and other research outputs, and write grant proposals. Promotes the research associated with Data Justice Lab by developing and delivering talks and short courses. Lab Community Engagements

Develops software packages to implement lab research results and provide consultation on usage. Assists with the organization of community building activities, and assists with the day-to-day operations of the lab. Assists with mentoring research students in the group and/or interdisciplinary student team projects. Performs other duties as assigned.
