The Department of Physics, at the University of South Dakota (USD), invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor, with expertise at the junction of particle, nuclear, astro-physics, materials science for radiation detection, or related areas with a preferred starting date of Fall 2022. The successful candidate will be able to establish a competitive and externally funded research program in one of these or a related field and will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate classes effectively in face-to-face and online environments. A PhD in Physics or a related field is required. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. With its proximity to the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), USD Physics has a focus on related science, with the majority of our faculty members working in the areas of neutrino physics, nuclear physics, and particle astrophysics. USD Physics is involved in experiments and consortiums including COHERENT, DUNE, GEMADARC, LEGEND, LUX, Majorana Demonstrator, MINER, nEXO, and SuperCDMS. USD plays a leading role in the development of germanium-based experiments as the only US university growing high-purity Ge crystals and making Ge detectors.
