Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Physics Division (PH) has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the team.


In this exciting role, under general supervision of and in collaboration with principal investigator / supervisor, perform computational research in quantum algorithms for high energy particle physics.


The posting shall remain open until the position is filled, however for full consideration, please apply by close of business on January 31, 2021.


What You Will Do:

  • Work on quantum computing for High Energy Particle Physics.

  • Conduct original research independently and in collaborations.

  • Interact with LBNL and other investigators working on similar and related scientific problems.

  • Prepare research papers for publication.

  • Prepare research presentations for seminars and conferences.

  • Interact with the experimental and theoretical communities at the lab.

  • Report results to supervisor.


Additional Responsibilities as needed:

  • Mentor Ph.D. students.

  • Organize local seminar series.

  • Other duties as assigned.


What is Required:

  • Ph.D. in physics or in a related field.

  • Experience in quantum computing research.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct original research independently.

  • Ability to work as a team member to accomplish research goals.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Relevant publication record and demonstration of proficient written and oral presentation of scientific results.

  2. A list of up to ten relevant publications, including contributions for multi-author publications.

  3. A statement describing current and future research interests (3-page limit excluding figures and references).

  5. Arrange to have 3 letters of reference submitted (at least one reference from outside LBNL/UC Berkeley).


Notes:

  • This is a full-time 2 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.
