The Biology Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a continuing non-tenure-track faculty position in microscopy, at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction, beginning July 1, 2022. The successful applicant will support the undergraduate research programs of departments in the Taylor Science Center that use the Microscopy and Imaging Facility (MIF) and teach the equivalent of 3–4 courses per year that integrate microscopy into the Biology curriculum (including contributions to Biology lab courses) and that demonstrate the principles and use of microscopy in biological and other applications. Annual conference travel, and support for professional development provided. Requires M.S. in a relevant field, teaching experience, a minimum of three years’ experience with scanning electron or confocal microscopes (preferably both) including sample preparation, and knowledge of digital image processing and associated computer skills. Experience maintaining these microscopes is an asset, and continuing development of instrument maintenance skills expected. Between one-third and half of this position is dedicated to administrative duties which include managing the Microscopy and Imaging Facility (MIF), maintenance of instruments, ordering of supplies, assisting users of the facility (academic year and summer research), and professional development. Professors of instruction do not have service responsibilities at the level of college-wide committees or in student academic advising, but are expected to participate in faculty meetings and contribute to Department planning and curricular development.
