The Department of History at the University of Oregon invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in African American history, to begin Sept. 16, 2022 (AY 2022-23). The research field is open but the successful candidate will teach both halves of the African American history survey and advanced courses in their area of specialization. The teaching responsibility is five courses (2-2-1 on the quarter system, the same teaching load as our tenured faculty). The department is especially interested in candidates whose teaching, research, and mentorship would complement and support the Black Studies minor. The position is presumed to be in residence at the University of Oregon, but the department might consider the possibility of remote teaching if needed. The history department will assign a faculty mentor to support the successful candidate. The salary is $60,000, plus a generous benefits package.
Candidates should submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, and the names and email addresses of 3 professional references no later than April 1, 2022. Fall quarter begins September 27, 2021, with the official start date of the position being September 16, 2022. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. by September 15, 2022.
