Postdoctoral Fellowship in Department of Microbial Pathogenesis - (220000HH)

A Postdoctoral Fellowship position is immediately available in the Scott Lab at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in the Department of Microbial Pathogenesis. The lab studies the role(s) of lipids (engineered or native) in the early innate immune response with an aim to alleviate conditions linked to uncontrolled inflammation including Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The funded project joins elements of neuroimmunology and microbiology and will test new ways to treat AD through manipulation of the gut-brain axis. This Postdoc will participate in exciting and diverse aspects of the project: 1) microbiome characterization and metagenomic studies; 2) characterizing translocated bacterial products from the gut to the brain; 3) exploration of molecular mechanisms of AD in mouse models using advanced mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) techniques. Qualifications

Candidate must have a PHD with 0-2 years experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in microbiology, immunology, neurobiology, biochemistry, or related areas. Willingness to work with rodent models is a requirement. This position will be a critical member of a dynamic team working in close collaboration with researchers in the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences and the Institute for Genome Sciences and must have good oral and written communication skills.
