We are seeking applications for a full time position for an exceptionally motivated, graduate-school bound individual who will gain 6-12 months of laboratory experience as an Associate in Research in the Chilkoti Lab at Duke Biomedical Engineering. Of major importance: this position is specifically geared toward individuals who plan to transition into a PhD program in Biomedical Engineering within the next year. The Chilkoti Laboratory at Duke University is a multidisciplinary group that has a particular interest in developing low-cost, point-of-care diagnostics and in applying polymer technology towards clinically impactful applications in the developing world.

This experience is specifically geared at providing an unparalleled experience toward developing the candidate as an investigator-in-training who is PhD-bound and plans to pursue an academic career that is well-aligned with the mission of the NIH. Research projects are highly translational with direct clinical relevance and will involve close collaboration between the School of Engineering and School of Medicine at Duke.

A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field is required, and the candidate should plan on pursuing a PhD degree within the next year. The applicant should have some prior experience in a wet-lab setting. A willingness to acquire research independence quickly is highly desirable.
