Duke University Press (DUP) seeks a Business Systems Coordinator (Project Coordinator). DUP’s technology portfolio has grown as we utilize our systems and platforms to develop new services for reaching our customers, at both the institutional and individual levels. We seek candidates who wish to kick-start their career in business analysis and project management through a role that coordinates and participates in the planning and management of publishing information systems and websites. The BizSys Coordinator will assist our business analysts in optimizing software and services to meet the business needs of the Press. This is a full-time position reporting to the Information Systems Manager, and is a member of DUP’s Business Information & Technology Services group.

This position is designed to allow for a wide variety of experiences and skillsets to come into it and be successful. Because this person will work across all of our systems, we expect to do a lot of training and don't expect anyone to come in with all the necessary knowledge and experience. If a person thinks analytically, has good organizational skills, picks up software quickly, and is not afraid of spreadsheets full of data, they can be successful.

The role will work with all DUP systems – web platforms, Title Management, digital content, ScholarOne and Advantage.

Work Performed: I. Plan, implement, and coordinate efforts related to complex information systems designed to support scholarly publishing initiatives; assist project and product managers in the management and execution of information systems projects and initiatives related to publishing information systems and websites; as required, assist product managers and director in operational and administrative activities.

II. Maintain liaison with appropriate DUP personnel, external contacts, and other interested parties to coordinate the publishing systems and project work; respond to inquiries related to the publishing systems, websites, and new initiatives according to established policies and procedures; coordinate the collection and dissemination of related data.

III. Prepare reports and analysis of project and system progress and risks; offer appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions as requested.

IV. Review and evaluate specific organizational and procedural problems and make recommendations for solutions; recommend changes and modifications to systems as required to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency of operations; harvest and analyze business data and offer recommendations and/or conclusions based on data analysis.

V. Assist in determining budgetary recommendations and requirements; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted system and project accounts; as required, assist product managers and director in operational and administrative activities.

VI. Demonstrate effective strategies for working with professionals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences; demonstrate sensitivity to language relating to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and ability/disability.

Department-Preferred Qualifications (skills and knowledge contributing to success in this role): • Strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) in order to assist non-technical individuals with complex technical issues • Attention to detail; ability to follow written procedures; ability to multi-task; ability to take direction and to work independently with minimal supervision; and a strong desire to learn • Fluency with MS Office, Google Docs, and Google Drive • Strong Excel and/or relational database skills (preferred) • Familiarity with the fundamentals of project management, including project planning, task definition, and scheduling

University-Required Education/Training: Work requires communication and analytical skills normally acquired through a 4-year college education, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

University-Required Experience: Work requires a general knowledge of research methods, procedures and activities normally acquired through 1 year of social science research experience, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Department-Preferred Experience: Work requires familiarity with basic data management and problem-solving methods normally acquired through 1-year experience in either a technology, publishing, or project management role.
