The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) in Syracuse, NY is building a faculty cluster in Water Research to complement existing expertise in water chemistry, water resources management, and aquatic ecology. The new cluster will include tenure-track positions in water quality modeling (Department of Environmental Resources Engineering), aquatic biochemistry (Department of Chemistry), water policy and governance (Department of Environmental Studies) and aquatic molecular and cellular biology (Department of Environmental Biology). Here we invite applications for an academic-year (10 mo) tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Aquatic Molecular and Cellular Biology. We are especially interested in candidates with a research focus in aquatics to contribute to supporting freshwater and marine systems in the Northeast and globally through substantial participation in ESF’s inaugural Water cluster hire. We seek a teacher-scholar with a strong commitment to engaging students in the classroom and through research mentorship at the undergraduate, MS and PhD levels. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in this interdisciplinary water cluster as well as build an internationally recognized and extramurally funded research program that relies heavily on molecular approaches. A strong interest in collaborative research with faculty in Environmental Biology and other departments within the College, is expected within the broader mission of the College to advance knowledge and promote stewardship of both natural and designed environments. Responsibilities: The workload for this position is 45% teaching, 45% research, and 10% service. Specific teaching responsibilities include: an undergraduate course in Cell Biology, an upper division undergraduate/graduate level laboratory course in Molecular Biology Techniques and to contribute to departmental synthesis/seminar courses. Service responsibilities include advising undergraduate students, mentoring graduate students at the Masters and Doctoral levels and participating in department, college and community service.

Required Qualifications: • PhD in molecular or cellular biology, biochemistry, biology or related fields • Strong record of publication of aquatics-related research • Evidence of potential to secure external funding to support research

Preferred Qualifications: • One or more years of postdoctoral experience and a proven track record in either molecular, biochemical, or cellular biology research • Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring • Evidence of strong lab research experience with some field research experience • Evidence of collegiality and dedication to professional service • Demonstrated ability to communicate science effectively to multiple constituencies • Demonstrated experience fostering an inclusive environment, working with people from diverse backgrounds, and incorporating diverse perspectives in research
