The Department of Biology at Duke University invites applications for a Lecturer position in Microbiology. This is a regular rank, non-tenure track, renewable contract faculty position with no independent research requirement. The Lecturer will work with other members of our faculty to support our General Microbiology course and will be principally responsible for sustaining its highly innovative lab. The Lecturer will also be expected to develop their own upper-level course in Microbiology to be taught annually. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in biology or one of its subfields and at least five years of experience in teaching college-level courses in general microbiology that include a lab. Preference will be given to candidates that are: proficient in bioinformatics; experienced users of Lab Archives’ classroom edition, Sakai, and Gradescope software; and have demonstrated success in building and maintaining a diverse culture collection of microbes. Application materials should be submitted as pdf files that include: 1) a cover letter outlining the applicant’s fit for the advertised position; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a 1-2 page teaching statement that includes information about the candidate’s efforts to sustain inclusive classrooms; and, 4) the names and contact information for three professional references.
