The Department of Speech and Hearing Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in areas related to speech and hearing science and/or speech-language pathology. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in cultural or linguistic diversity, swallowing disorders (dysphagia), or stuttering. However, all candidates who meet the qualifications listed below, including those with other areas of expertise, are encouraged to apply.

Because research in speech and hearing science and speech-language pathology is inherently interdisciplinary, it is expected that the successful candidate will strengthen existing collaborations with other Ohio State colleges and departments that are relevant to the candidate's area of expertise. The Department of Speech and Hearing Science is positioned within the College of Arts and Sciences and the Division of the Social and Behavioral Sciences. It consists of 22 full-time faculty across the tenure, clinical, and research tracks. The Department has four main academic programs: the BA in Speech and Hearing Science, MA in Speech-Language Pathology, AuD in Audiology, and the PhD. In addition to building a research program, assistant professors are expected to contribute to the Department’s teaching and service missions by teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. They will have opportunities to teach courses in basic speech-language sciences, as well as courses in more clinically applied areas associated with their area of expertise, and participate in service activities in the Department, College, and University. The Ohio State University has a strong institutional commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all areas. We favor candidates who can promote interdisciplinary perspectives, intercultural understanding, sensitivity and respect among our departmental community and the patients and families whom we serve.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in Speech and Hearing Science, Communicative Disorders, or a related field. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and show potential for securing extramural funding (e.g., National Institutes of Health, NSF). Clinical certification and licensure in speech-language pathology is also preferred, but it is not required. We seek candidates who demonstrate multicultural competence, or the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from the candidate in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.

About Columbus: The Ohio State University campus is located in Columbus, the capital city of Ohio. Columbus is the Midwest’s fastest-growing city and the nation’s 14th largest city. Columbus offers a diverse array of welcoming neighborhoods and a vibrant arts and culture scene. Additional information about all that the Columbus area has to offer is available at https://visit.osu.edu/experience.

Application Instructions: A complete application consists of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research, teaching and diversity statements, and three letters of reference. The diversity statement should articulate your demonstrated commitments and capacities to contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, mentoring, and/or outreach and engagement. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries may be directed to Dr. Jennifer Lundine at lundine.4@osu.edu.
