The Department of Entertainment and Media Studies invites applications for
faculty whose research and teaching addresses issues in television
entertainment or, more broadly, in screen cultures in media entertainment
including television, film, and/or digital media. Salary will be commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
Depending on qualifications, candidates may apply at the Assistant Professor
rank on tenure-track (eligible for yearly reappointment), or at the Associate
Professor rank with tenure. This position at the Assistant rank is eligible for

Mentoring of graduate students and direction of theses and dissertations,
and service on department, college and university committees is expected.
This position carries a 2/2 teaching load. In addition to teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in specific areas of expertise, teaching
responsibilities will include 1-2 additional courses in theoretical,
methodological and/or substantive required courses for majors.
Required Qualification
PhD in Mass Communication or related field
Research that clearly focuses on television entertainment or, more
broadly, on screen cultures in media entertainment including
television, film, and/or digital media
Evidence of a planned program of significant and original scholarly
research of sufficient quantity and quality to meet the standards of the
rank applied for and the expectations of a Research I institution
Candidates applying at the Associate Professor rank with tenure
should exhibit a significant and substantial research and teaching
record that warrants appointment at that rank at a Research I
institution.
Preferred Qualification
At least one year of university-level teaching experience as the
instructor of record in teaching classes in television entertainment or
screen cultures in media entertainment.
Demonstrated familiarity with the emergence, development and
general scholarly debates in fields of media studies and in mass
communication.
Demonstrated commitment to work with students of all backgrounds
and with students holding a range of worldviews.

The Department of Entertainment and Media Studies (EMST) is home to
media scholars of varied theoretical and methodological traditions. It
administers the major in Entertainment & Media Studies, which focuses on
