*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Albert Einstein Center for Fundamental Physics at the University of Bern expects to have two Ph.D. positions available, starting in February 2023 at the earliest. Each position is for three years with a possible one-year extension. The work contract will follow guidelines set by the Swiss National Foundation (see https://www.snf.ch/media/en/B0SWnPsrDCRTaiCx/snsf-general-implementation-regulations-for-the-funding-regulations-e.pdf, Annex 12, page 68).

The Ph.D. work will be carried out in the group of Valentin Hirschi, on the topic of precision calculations of collider cross-sections. The projects will be set within the context of the development of a novel approach to perturbative computations called "Local Unitarity", concisely summarised in e.g. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2110.15662.pdf. Applicants with a combined interest in theoretical aspects of High-Energy Physics and applied computational methods are especially encouraged to apply. For more information on the faculty members and on the institute, see http://www.itp.unibe.ch.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a grades transcript, a research statement, a copy of their master's thesis (or a draft thereof if still in preparation), and arrange for at least one and preferably two letters of recommendation.

Preference is given to applications submitted by November 1, 2022.
