Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Delaire Research Group at Duke University has a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position open immediately. The position is to work on studies of atomic structure and dynamics in solid-state inorganic materials. The Delaire group conducts scattering experiments (neutrons/x-rays) and materials simulations (DFT, MD, AI-ML) to investigate atomic dynamics, transport and thermodynamic properties of energy materials, functional materials and quantum materials.

The PDRA position is open immediately. Applicants with a Ph.D. in physics, solid-state chemistry or materials science, or related fields, are encouraged to apply. The PDRA position seeks candidates with established expertise in first-principles materials modeling, machine learning techniques, and general proficiency with computational science and programming. Expertise in simulations of atomic dynamics (phonons, diffusion) is especially valuable. Good knowledge of scattering/diffraction theory and some exposure to experiments is also valuable.

We seek a creative individual with a demonstrated track record of productive research. The successful candidate must have excellent written/oral communication skills, be committed to teamwork, and thrive in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.

Our group offers a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive work environment with many opportunities for professional development.

About Duke University: Located in Durham, NC (nearby Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina), Duke is a top US research university with a dynamic research environment and scenic campus. National rankings consistently rate the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill (“Triangle”) region among the five best places in the country to live and work, with moderate weather, reasonable cost of living, a highly educated workforce, and a welcoming environment. A collaborative, supportive environment for business and innovation and research collaborations with area universities and the Research Triangle Park are compelling reasons for relocation to the area.

Duke University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
