This opportunity is open to qualified individuals who self-identify as Black peoples of African Descent (for example Africans and African heritage people from the Caribbean, Americas, Europe). Recognizing the underrepresentation of Black faculty, this opportunity has been developed based on the special program provisions of the Ontario Human Rights Code. The Department of Physics and Astronomy comprises both experimental and theoretical researchers in the following areas: high energy physics, atomic/molecular/optical physics (including laser physics), biophysics, and astrophysics.

The successful candidate must have earned a doctoral degree (or is close to completion and in hand by the start date) in physics, biophysics, astrophysics, astronomy, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, supervise graduate students (prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies), foster research linkages within and beyond York, and play an active role in widely promoting York's endeavours in research and education.
