The Duke University Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity (Cook Center) is seeking an associate in research-data manager. The data manger will oversee collection on topic areas related to COVID-19, mortality, and populations in carceral settings. This is a grant-funded position.

The Cook Center is an interdisciplinary scholarly collaborative engaged in the study of the causes and consequences of inequality and in the assessment and redesign of remedies for inequality and its adverse effects. Concerned with the economic, political, social and cultural dimensions of uneven and inequitable access to resources, opportunity and capabilities, Cook Center researchers take a cross-national comparative approach to the study of human difference and disparity. Ranging from the global to the local, Cook Center scholars not only address the overarching social problem of general inequality, but they also explore social problems at the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity and religious affiliation.

Occupational Summary

The hired candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team. They will contribute to on-going efforts to scale up a data hub on public health crises that disproportionately impact CL involved persons. The data manager will contribute to a number of research activities in support of the changing needs of the project. Daily, they will be involved in data collection, entry, and cleaning, and will provide support to project staff, as needed. They will also have opportunities to contribute to the development of outward facing scholastic products, such as white papers, memos, blog posts, and manuscripts.

Work Performed

Project Support
Assist with project support-related duties as needed (i.e., preparing for trainings, gathering information for reports, preparing materials, website maintenance, communications with project personnel, literature searches, providing support for reports to funding agencies).  Collaborate with the PI on the development and finalizations of research materials. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings

 

Data Management, Entry and Analysis
Create or maintain specific databases needed for processing data resulting from the administration of assessment batteries and observations.  Assist with ensuring that databases are efficiently designed for ease of data entry, and that all required data elements are captured effectively.  As assigned, enter data with high attention to detail and accuracy

 

Compliance Activities
Assist with compiling reports, submit materials, and prepare information for funding and other research oversight agencies.

 

Data Analysis
Assist with analysis in multiple ways on research data as necessary to generate results and findings.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a science discipline or closely related field.

Experience

Work requires at least one year of experience working in health-focused environment.
