The Duke University Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity (Cook Center) is seeking an associate in research-project coordinator to provide administrative supervision and implement and evaluate innovate interventions in diverse criminal justice settings.  This is a grant-funded position.

The Cook Center is an interdisciplinary scholarly collaborative engaged in the study of the causes and consequences of inequality and in the assessment and redesign of remedies for inequality and its adverse effects. Concerned with the economic, political, social and cultural dimensions of uneven and inequitable access to resources, opportunity and capabilities, Cook Center researchers take a cross-national comparative approach to the study of human difference and disparity. Ranging from the global to the local, Cook Center scholars not only address the overarching social problem of general inequality, but they also explore social problems at the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity and religious affiliation.

Occupation Summary

Criminal justice involved individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) are at a significantly elevated risk of overdose in the immediate days and weeks leaving incarceration due to interrelated risk factors, including decreased tolerance and limited access to treatment. This is a NIDA-funded JCOIN grant, aiming to address gaps in OUD treatment and services in criminal justice settings by facilitating linkage to care to improve measures in the opioid treatment cascade. The hired candidate will oversee the North Carolina site in Brunswick County, collaborating with a nationwide-network of researchers in to implement and evaluate these innovative interventions in diverse criminal justice settings. They will be responsible for the provision of administrative services, program operations, quality assurance, facilitating best practices, supervision, reporting and monitoring of direct and contracted program services.  This position will act as the point of contact for the intervention and oversight of the project, providing administrative supervision to the care coordinators and data manager. The program coordination will serve as the health liaison to the courts; serving as the liaison with local jail administration, community partners, and stakeholders; and ensuring that data collection and management is consistent with the multi-site evaluation protocol.

Work Performed

Protocol Management

Manage internal project processes including data collection, analysis, and reporting to keep the protocol on track and on schedule. Submit IRB renewals and modifications as needed. Assign workflow to personnel to ensure all data collection and analysis components are being completed. Coordinate and contribute to the development of new data collection instruments, such as interview guides and surveys, over the life of the project. Lead efforts in streamlining, quality assurance, and quality control of data collection and analysis processes. Problem-solve deviations in the protocol and develop processes to improve data collection and analysis.

 

Project Coordination

Oversee project workflow and daily activities. Implement new database software system for data management. Manage participant database including data collection, compilation, and reporting. Create new data collection forms to support the conduct of interviews and surveys. Manage complex system of participant communication, including coordinating and scheduling phone interviews, administering phone surveys, conducting research participation follow-up communications, updating the participant database and relevant project spreadsheets, and preparing mailings. Coordinate, systematize, and problem-solve participant communication efforts.

 

Data Collection and Analysis

Coordinate and conduct interviews at scheduled time points in the project including staff interview assignments, pre-interview data analysis and report preparation, and post-interview data processing, editing, and quality control. Oversee and participate in verifying interview transcripts, coding, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Propose possible research avenues and manuscript development based on data analysis. Ensure that all data collection and management activities are performed with the utmost attention to participant confidentiality, as well as HIPAA and IRB requirements.

 

Building Commitment and Networking

Building Commitment and Networking: Works in a dynamic management team environment to build commitment to program goals and initiatives by working closely with all levels of staff.

 

Workflow and Quality Improvement

Quality control collection and analysis of data by writing and implementing SOPs, design and maintain a project "dashboard" to streamline work assignments and improve communication, and spot check work performed by all team members. Report and troubleshoot atypical data information.

 

Personnel Management

Participate in the hiring, training and supervising of project staff and undergraduate research assistants. Delegate project assignments and tasks to staff. Communicate and collaborate with staff daily to ensure project protocols and deadlines are met.

 

Grant, Manuscript, and Document Support: Assist in preparation of grant applications, reports, and literature reviews. Design and create slides, overheads, posters, tables and reports for dissemination of results. Assist in development of training and outreach materials. Track and organize manuscript submission, including formatting for appropriate journals, and tracking submissions and revisions.

 

Budget Management: Perform budget analysis. Manage project-related purchasing, supply ordering, expense reimbursements, account adjustments, payment requests, and perform other administrative support tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Master of Science in Epidemiology or closely related field.

Experience

Work requires at least five years of experience working in health-focused organizations, with some experience working in a university setting.
