Summary of Duties:

The Gene and Linda Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering (VSCEB) at Washington State University (WSU) Pullman, WA invites applications for two full-time, academic year (9 months) Teaching (Career Track) Assistant/Associate Professor positions.

The first individual who is hired into this position will be responsible for teaching the capstone bioengineering design sequence, and up to three other courses per year, which may include bioengineering transport phenomena, cellular bioengineering, instrumentation, numerical methods for bioengineers, quantitative physiology, or other courses as appropriate for the successful candidate.

The second individual who is hired will be responsible for teaching the capstone chemical engineering design sequence, and up to three core chemical engineering courses per year, which may include mass and energy balances, transport phenomena, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, thermodynamics, kinetics and reactor design, process control, or other courses as appropriate for the successful candidate. The ability to contribute to both programs, chemical engineering and bioengineering, will be considered an asset.

The duties for both positions will also include participating in curriculum development, participating in continuous program assessment activities, advising students, mentoring, and interacting with students, supporting student recruitment activities, and collaborating with others within the VSCEB, the University or other organizations. The duties may also include mentoring student professional society clubs and activities.

Required Qualifications: Candidates for both Assistant and Associate ranks must hold a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field by the appointment start date or hold a Master’s degree in one of the above disciplines and have at least a combined record of three (3) years of teaching and/or industrial experience.

Candidates with experience in curriculum development or relevant industrial experience that would inform capstone design course instruction are preferred.

For the Associate rank, candidates must demonstrate sustained excellence in teaching. Scholarly contributions and service will also be considered such as educational publications, presentations, funding, involvement in ABET accreditation, etc.

Additional Information:

The individual hired for this position will join existing faculty members in the Voiland School. As of Fall 2022, approximately 290 undergraduate (B.S.), 58 Ph.D. and 4 M.S. students collectively are enrolled in the two programs offered by the VSCEB. We currently graduate about 49 BS students and 18 graduate students each year. We plan to grow these undergraduate and graduate enrollments through new, innovative offerings.
