LEHIGH UNIVERSITY. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure- track position as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy with a specialization in Bioethics, effective Fall 2023. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy by the date of hire. 

The successful candidate will occupy a tenure track position in the Department of Philosophy. This position's responsibilities will be divided 50/50 between (a) Department of Philosophy and (b) Health Medicine and Society (HMS), an undergraduate interdisciplinary program in the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate is expected to be research active in the field of Bioethics and teach either the Philosophy of Medicine or the History of Medicine. Candidates should be excited about working and teaching in this interdisciplinary environment.

Lehigh's Philosophy Department faculty are scholars with international research reputations whose expertise represents a wide variety of specializations within philosophy. We have different intellectual interests and philosophical approaches, but we are all devoted to research and to teaching. The members of the department are convinced of both the social importance of philosophical reflection and the importance of appreciating the historical depth of philosophy. Our faculty enjoy working and teaching in a highly interdisciplinary environment in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Health Medicine and Society program prepares students to meet the increasingly complex health needs of the growing global population. Our interdisciplinary faculty offer courses focused on social scientific and humanistic approaches to health that aim to cultivate a broad understanding of the effects of health, illness, and medical care on individuals, families, and communities. Our faculty are involved in both local and international health-related research, including a growing focus on community health.
