| The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure or clinical track faculty position in our Small Animal Community Practice (SACP) as Medical Director. The successful candidate will lead the SACP team whose mission is to provide comprehensive, competency-based primary care education to veterinary students.
Our Small Animal Community Practice, which opened in 2018, is a state-of-the-art facility, separate from the main hospital that offers the opportunity to model excellence in general practice. This American Animal Hospital Association accredited building is a 10,000 square foot full-service facility. You will have the opportunity to work with our outstanding practice manager, excellent team of licensed technicians, client service representatives and group of tenure-track and clinical faculty to further develop our teaching program. We are looking for an experienced, well-rounded veterinarian who has the vision and skills to lead the SACP through a comprehensive clinical curriculum update to prepare the next generation of veterinary students for success. SACP is a part of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, a $35 million group of practices. You will join us as we re-imagine our clinical curriculum, including primary care rotations. This position will play a leadership role in curriculum renewal initiatives at the college and realizing the overall mission of the SACP which is to graduate practice-ready veterinarians by maximizing the student’s primary veterinary care experience. The SACP under the successful candidate’s leadership will be a busy, safe, mentoring hospital environment where veterinary students perform wellness exams, spays, neuters and minor surgeries, routine dental care, urgent care, and more.
There is opportunity to also expand educational offerings within SACP on veterinary business with input from the Center for Veterinary Business and Entrepreneurship (CVBE) to leverage the SACP to provide veterinary business and practice management training for students. The clinical duties include oversight of senior veterinary students while providing primary veterinary care to patients in the SACP, exclusively seeing dogs and cats at the moment, with opportunity to expand to exotics and pocket pets.
Candidates should be proficient in general veterinary care of medical, surgical, and dental patients. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the teams within SACP, as well as Cornell University Hospital for Animals faculty and staff. Distribution of effort in the Section and Department will be determined in accordance with the position (clinical track or tenure track), service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate’s expertise and academic goals. Candidates must have a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Preference will be given to candidates with practice management, practice ownership and/or leadership experience (such as Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Veterinary Business Management Certificate). Special consideration will be given to individuals with experience in education-based and pedagogical research. Salary, rank, and title will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
