The Wilkes Honors College (WHC), which opened in 1999, is a highly selective liberal arts and sciences college within a large state university, located on FAU’s MacArthur Campus in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida, just outside of West Palm Beach. The campus is an international hub for scientific research and hosts the world-renowned research institutes Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and UF Scripps Biomedical Research, and FAU’s own Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute. In addition, FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is located nearby in Fort Pierce.

The WHC’s four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and cross-disciplinary programs. Currently, the WHC enrolls 649 honors students and has 47 full-time honors faculty members. Required qualifications include a PhD or MD/PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Vertebrate Zoology, or a related field.
