The Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant level. The IfA operates its three facilities, one on O‘ahu (on the Mānoa campus), one on Maui, and one on Hawai'i Island, collectively as a single but distributed UH-Mānoa research/teaching unit. UH Mānoa is the flagship campus of a 10-campus system, and is one of only a handful of institutions that are land-, sea-, space-, and sun-grant institutions. We deliver a multicultural global experience in a Hawaiian place of learning. The IfA has strong research groups in most areas of astrophysics and has guaranteed access to the entire suite of observational facilities on the summits of Maunakea and Haleakalā. Candidates in all subfields of Astronomy with a particular interest in designing, building, or using new instrumentation are encouraged to apply. This position is one of three that are expected to begin in Fall 2023 and will be based in Hilo on Hawai‘i Island.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Undertaking a program of astronomical research. 2. Teaching at least one graduate or undergraduate course per year. 3. Participating in the intellectual environment of the IfA.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or closely related discipline, by the time of the appointment.

Desired Qualifications

1. A strong research record; demonstrated ability to lead a research program involving students; demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; experience or training in STEM pedagogy.
