Position Description

Rice University’s School of Engineering invites applicants from diverse backgrounds for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of quantum materials, broadly defined. This appointment will be in the department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering (MSNE). We seek outstanding candidates with research interests in experimental and/or theoretical materials science relevant to quantum technology. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: synthesis, characterization, and theory of quantum materials; materials and devices for quantum communication, quantum computation, quantum sensing, and quantum simulation. The selected applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in MSNE and build a successful research program. More experienced senior candidates conducting transformative research projects and with experience in building institutional equity across fields may also be considered. The position is part of the Rice Quantum Initiative that is significantly expanding our already strong program (quantum.rice.edu). With multiple faculty involved in quantum materials, quantum devices, quantum chemistry, and quantum algorithms, Rice considers these areas as focal points of quantum research in the coming decade.
