*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral appointment in the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics (WCA) at the University of Waterloo as part of the research group of Prof. Mike Hudson. The focus of this position is weak gravitational lensing, particularly galaxy-galaxy lensing, with the Euclid mission. Euclid is an ESA mission (https://sci.esa.int/web/euclid) scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2023. The position is funded primarily by a grant from the Canadian Space Agency for two years, with a possible extension to 3 years subject to continued funding. The successful applicant will become a member of the Euclid Consortium and have access to the Euclid data, as well as to proprietary data from other weak lensing surveys such as the Ultraviolet Near Infrared Optical Northern Survey, UNIONS (https://www.skysurvey.cc/).

The WCA (https://uwaterloo.ca/astrophysics-centre/) consists of 14 research-active faculty members with active visitor and meeting programs. Research is undertaken in several areas including cosmology, large-scale structure, CMB, gravitational lensing, black holes, gravitational wave astronomy, galactic dynamics, galaxies, clusters, quasars and sub-mm astronomy, with membership of a number of ongoing and future experiments including DESI, EHT, Euclid, FYST/CCATp, Rubin/LSST and UNIONS. The group has a close connection to the Perimeter Institute, which is located just a short walk away.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics by the start date. Please submit applications consisting of a covering letter, CV, list of publications and a research statement, as well as asking three referees to respond electronically by January 6, 2023. If you have already responded to the broad postdoctoral advertisement from the WCA (https://jobregister.aas.org/ad/2cb6016b), you will automatically be considered for this position and need not apply again unless you wish to update your materials.

The University of Waterloo is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusivity in recruitment, work environment, and work-life balance. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible and/or underrepresented minorities, Indigenous Peoples, and persons with disabilities.
