The Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA is recruiting 1 non-tenure eligible faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has assumed a prominent position in both the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Chan Medical School and in the UMassMemorial Clinical System. This is due to strong leadership, high quality clinical care, innovative education, and high-impact research. Our research has matured from basic clinical quality type work to complex scientific studies, many of which are considered true translational research. We are one of the top 5 NIH-funded departments of EM in the country. All of this has come together to create a departmental environment that fosters and supports inter-disciplinary, scholarly work. UMass received a Clinical and Translation Science Award in 2010 and the medical school receives more than $250 million dollars in annual extramural funding. EM has both contributed to the clinical and translational research at UMass and has received funding from the CTSA award.

The applicant is expected to have a PhD in clinical psychology or related field and at least 2 years’ postdoctoral research experience in integrating suicide prevention and/or implementation science. Work will entail designing and testing better methods for suicide risk identification and suicide prevention within healthcare settings. It will include using technological innovations to facilitate care.

The ideal applicant should have strong interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills necessary to train graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and staff. They will learn to write and submit competitive grant applications as PI or co-investigator and strive for scientific independence.
