The Heavy-Ion Group at the MIT Laboratory of Nuclear Science invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. Our group has leading roles in QCD studies in nucleus-nucleus and proton-induced collisions with the CMS experiment at LHC and sPHENIX at RHIC.

The successful candidate will play a major role in data taking and in the analysis of data from the experiments. Technical responsibilities will be focussed on the tracking systems, online data processing and aspects of track and calorimeter reconstruction, in particular including applications of machine learning in these areas. We also operate a CMS Tier-2 computing facility at MIT. Consequently, a strong background in tracking detector technologies, DAQ/trigger development or software development and large-scale computing is desirable.

Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. To ensure full consideration, candidates should apply by February 1, 2023. Interested candidates should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, publication list, a brief statement of research interests and experience, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted online.

Any questions regarding this position should be directed to Prof. Gunther Roland (rolandg@mit.edu).

All material should be send electronically.

Job Requirements:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics and preferably a background in nuclear physics or high energy physics.
