The MIT Kavli Institute (MKI) for Astrophysics and Space Research invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in 21cm cosmology and related studies within the radio astronomy group led by Professor Jacqueline Hewitt. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play a leading role in research with the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA; see, with an emphasis on data acquisition and analysis, and the interpretation of data within a framework of theoretical predictions of heating and reionization of the intergalactic medium at high redshift. Collaborative opportunities are enabled by MKI’s community of astrophysicists, and its participation in the Magellan Telescopes, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, and the Chandra X-ray Center.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or a closely related field, preferably with a background in radio astronomy or cosmology. Those with strong backgrounds in radio-frequency techniques, computing, and data analysis are especially encouraged to apply. The position is full-time and benefits-eligible, with an anticipated start date of September 2023. The appointment will initially be for one year, with two annual renewals contingent upon performance and the availability of resources.
