The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Boston University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in premodern Chinese Literature before 1911, to begin July 1, 2023. A Ph.D. in Chinese Literature, Comparative Literature, or a related field must be completed by the time of employment. We are interested in candidates with a strong foundation in classical Chinese literature and Literary Sinitic and innovative approaches to critical Asian humanities, including but not limited to intellectual history, gender/sexuality studies, material culture, translation, visual arts, popular culture, literary theory, and comparative
literature. At Boston University, the successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty community in East Asian literature, comparative literature, and interdisciplinary Asian studies. We expect a publishing record, significant teaching experience, and a willingness to participate actively in student advising. We are excited about assisting rising scholars in their growth as researchers and educators, and in turn look forward to having a scholar on campus who is eager to actively engage with and contribute to the events and intellectual life of the department. The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate survey course, “Masterpieces of Premodern Chinese Literature,” as well as three additional electives in their areas of specialization.
