The Gerecht lab (https://pratt.duke.edu/faculty/sharon-gerecht) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our interdisciplinary research program at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. Our tissue engineering lab combines cutting-edge techniques from various disciplines, including stem cells, biomaterials, microfluidics, mechanobiology, cellular and molecular biology, etc. 

The Research Associate will as part of a collaborative team to establish and implement research protocols for complex and/or multiple research studies with a focus on cell and molecular biology. Provide scientific, training, grants, and reporting support and other research responsibilities involving the research activities of the lab. As part of a study team, collaborate with trainees, develop protocols, and supervise study-related activities for one or more studies. 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 

Experimental Support: 
•Independently conduct laboratory-based experiments. These assays will mainly focus on gene editing of stem cells and their derivatives using CRISPR and other methods for generating stable cell lines. These will include but are not limited to: tissue and mammalian cell culture, cloning, gene expression analysis, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, protein arrays.
• Teach assays to other laboratory personnel and collaborate with personnel in laboratory-based experiments and assays for the various research projects 
• May also provide support for animal studies in the lab including animal handling and maintenance, preparation for surgeries, occasional measurements, etc 
• Interpret data, write methods and protocols. 
 
Reporting: 
• In collaboration with the PI, track activities, milestones, and deliverables. 
• Provide support and submit progress reports for research activities. • Along with the PI, monitors use of resources in accordance with project plans and budgets, assist control of resources, in a collaborative manner. 

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in related discipline. Five years of related experience, specifically with genetic manipulation of mammalian cells and cloning. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the Duke equivalency formula.
