Stanford has been involved in a major remaking of introductory general education and undergraduate major requirements. The University launched the COLLEGE program as a first-year requirement. You can read about its offerings here: https://college.stanford.edu/courses. In addition, all majors are now required to offer a robust senior capstone experience.
The Program in International Relations seeks to hire a lecturer who in addition to teaching two courses (one preparation) in one quarter of COLLEGE, would teach three capstone project workshops, one per quarter, in International Relations as well as assist with developing and mounting our capstone requirement (the normal load of a lecturer is six courses, one of which will be replaced by capstone coordinating and advising work). This appointment would be for three years with a possibility of renewal. Successful candidates will have a PhD in hand no later than July 1, 2023--the PhD should be in international relations, political science, or a related field (e.g., history, sociology, sustainability). The position will begin on August 1, 2023, and the successful hire will be expected to attend the COLLEGE training program in August.
Please send a cover letter that addresses your qualifications, including: demonstrated excellence in teaching, especially first year students; research and teaching related to classes in the interdisciplinary COLLEGE curriculum and evidencing intellectual flexibility; experience advising undergraduates and mentoring creative student projects that employ a diverse range of media, methodologies, and skills; evidence of ability to develop and manage an undergraduate program or curriculum. Please also send three letters of recommendation, at least one of which speaks to your teaching.
The salary range for this position is $84-86K for 2023-24.
