The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University invites applications for an Instructor to teach and co-teach Korean in a five-year sequence program. The Duke Korean program provides a small group learning environment where students develop and expand their language repertoires and transcultural capacities through social interactions and engagement with a variety of content, text and modality. Duties include teaching classes, designing and creating instructional materials, activities and projects, and developing and implementing assessments. The position begins July 1, 2023.

Instructor is a non-regular rank, non-tenure track faculty position, with the possibility of renewal. The full teaching load is 5 courses a year, and the salary and benefits accord with a collective bargaining agreement between the union and the university.

We seek candidates with deep knowledge of existing approaches to language teaching, demonstrated creativity in pedagogy and materials development, strong interest in connections with related disciplines, and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness in working with students and colleagues and to reflective teaching.

Required qualifications: - Graduate degree in relevant field (e.g. Applied Linguistics, Korean Language and Literature, Asian Studies) - Teaching experience at the university level - Native or near-native command of spoken and written Korean - Strong command of spoken and written English
