A one-year, full time, paid research internship is available in The Patek Lab, Biology Dept., Duke University, starting summer 2023.

Topic: Hands-on research and administrative training in comparative biomechanics, evolution, and marine research.

Who: Individuals needing additional research experience before applying to graduate school or other further careers in research science. It is not suitable as a single “gap year” for students continuing to medical school. Training & Experiences: experimental design, data collection, data analysis, scientific writing, marine fieldwork, high speed imaging, digital image analysis, materials testing, 3D printing, microCT scanning, aquarium systems, computer systems, data management, equipment care, leadership/organization of lab team events. Stipend: $38000 per year. An additional $2,000 supplement will be provided to cover health insurance. Additional funding is available to attend and present at a scientific conference.

Start date: Approximately July 10, 2023, and can be adjusted to some extent according to the needs of the candidate.

(4) Description of how internship would enhance the diversity of individuals pursuing careers in science. (5) Description of interest and commitment to pursuing in-depth research experience in comparative biomechanics. (6) Plans for pursuing further training or a career in science or engineering, but not medical training.
