The Schwarzman Scholars Program is recruiting Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows (PTF) for the 2023-2024 academic year, to be based at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University, Beijing China.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Schwarzman Scholars is a one year fully-funded master’s program in global affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. As the first scholarship of its kind created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century, Schwarzman Scholars aspires to build a global network of young leaders that are prepared to confront the pressing challenges facing the world. With over $575 million raised to date, the program represents a unique philanthropic effort, bringing together Chinese and global future leaders, faculty, and donors from nearly 100 countries.

Each year, up to 200 candidates are chosen for this highly selective program. Scholars are selected based on their leadership qualities and the potential to understand and bridge cultural and political differences. They live in Beijing for a year of intensive study, honing leadership skills through a curriculum designed and taught by leading academics from internationally ranked institutions.

POSITION SUMMARY & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Schwarzman College PTFs work as part of the Academics team and play a vital role in helping the Schwarzman Scholars program in fulfilling its mission by ensuring academic success of courses and students. PTFs will fulfill the following three main academic roles: teaching support, academic support, and student advising.

The main responsibility for the PTFs will be to support teaching in large (150 students) core courses at Schwarzman College, working closely with core course professors to assist in leading discussion and tutorial sessions for large lecture courses in the three core areas of the curriculum: Global Affairs, Leadership, and China. Additional Responsibilities would include serving as: - All around in-house tutor and mentor to the Scholars providing academic counseling, Capstone advice and support as needed; - Ad-hoc advising and support to Schwarzman College Career Services team for Scholars interested in pursuing doctoral studies after their Schwarzman Scholars year; - Support teaching additional courses, as arranged with SC faculty. All PTFs will be expected to support up to 3 courses over the academic year, arranged once enrollment numbers are known; and - Writing tutor as an affiliate of the Schwarzman College Writing Center and provide assistance to Scholars with academic writing (as needed).

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Individuals with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: 1. Doctoral degree required. Degree must be awarded no later than June 2023 in public policy, political science, economics, international relations, history, or another relevant field with a focus on China; 2. Fluency in English (for purposes of teaching, research and communications); 3. International experience and knowledge and experience working in or on China. Educational background in the United States and/or Europe is preferred.
