Mechanical Engineering Department, Boston University
|The Boston University Department of Mechanical Engineering has an opening for a Professor of the Practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and teaching advanced courses in engineering design as it relates to manufacturing and product development. The MechE department has made significant investments to expand our commitment to hands-on experience in product development. This position is intended to deepen and broaden that initiative, and to join a community of like-minded leaders rethinking the masters and undergraduate engineering curriculum. The department has 46 fulltime faculty members, including numerous PoP faculty with deep industrial experience. Combined, we offer our students a broad education in fundamental engineering science applied to real-world challenges.
Candidates for the position would have a Masters or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and significant practical experience manufacturing products.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching applicable courses will be considered advantageous, although individuals with a track record of industrial leadership and engineering success will also be entertained.
This position is a limited-term, non-tenure track appointment with a 9-month academic year salary. Possibilities of support in the summer include summer classes and various outreach programs. Instructional faculty in the Mechanical Engineering department are expected to teach multiple courses per year (typically, four to six). These positions come with full benefits.
