Duke University - Faculty Hire in Cryo-EM Quantitative Sciences

As part of Duke University’s new Quantitative Initiative, Duke University in collaboration with Duke University Health System is seeking an exceptional, collaborative, and creative mathematical scientist, computational scientist, or engineer to join its faculty in a tenured/tenure-track position in the area of cryo-electron microscopy. We invite applications from researchers with an outstanding track record in the fundamental research or the technological, algorithmic or analytic developments related to the quantitative aspects of cryo-EM, including image acquisition, reconstruction, processing, and data analysis.

Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent degree and demonstrated significant contributions in the theoretical and/or algorithmic foundations of cryo-EM data analysis or related fields. It is expected that such foundations resulted in fundamental contributions in biology. The candidate will join coordinated efforts with UNC Chapel Hill and NIEHS to make the research triangle a powerhouse in cryo-EM and its applications to the frontiers of biology, biochemistry, and medicine. The candidate will work closely with leading scientists in Duke Health to advance in these disciplines. Ideally, the candidate will also strengthen the broad university groups in image processing and inverse problems.

We strongly encourage applications from scientists with a demonstrated interest in collaborative research. Successful candidates will synergize with existing strengths at Duke in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, biology, and chemistry; and are expected to have collaborations with numerous Duke Health departments. This is a university-wide opening and the candidate will coordinate with Duke University and the home department/s. Secondary appointments, joint appointments, or affiliations may be arranged with relevant departments, schools and centers on campus as appropriate. Salary, start-up package, and laboratory space will be commensurable with the experience and needs of the position.

The collaborative nature of the new initiative will provide successful candidates with access to exceptional resources on campus and the North Carolina Research Triangle in general, including the availability of the state-of-the-art Titan Krios electron microscope.

Interested applicants should submit materials (cover letter, CV with publications list, and statements of research and teaching accomplishments and interests) via the portal Junior faculty candidates should ask three referees to submit reference letters as well. Further inquiries may be directed to Review of applications will begin on November 30, 2016, and continue until the positions are filled, with preference given to candidates that apply before January 15.
