|Brandeis University seeks a Director of First-Year Writing, beginning Fall 2017, to oversee the continued development and administration of a first-year writing program that serves 900 students each year. The director will teach one University Writing Seminar each semester, hire and supervise graduate student instructors and full-time lecturers who teach in the first-year writing program, and lead the continuing improvement and collaborative advancement of the program’s vision for the future.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: interview, hire, train, and supervise instructors; supervise a graduate student Assistant to the Writing Director; meet regularly with instructors; and develop assessment tools for tracking the program’s use and efficacy. The Director of First-Year Writing reports to the Director of University Writing.

Qualifications: PhD required, preferably with Rhetoric/Composition or comparable experience. Experience directing a writing program preferred. We also seek: demonstrated excellence in designing and teaching writing courses; ability to work effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, and students; professional activities relevant to writing; and excellent organizational skills and ability to plan and prioritize tasks/projects. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is full-time, benefits-eligible, and outside the tenure structure. The initial appointment could be up to three years, with the potential for renewal.
