The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Swarthmore College invites applications for a three-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese language and culture, with the possibility of renewal up to six years, beginning in fall 2017. Responsibilities include a combination of Japanese language teaching, courses in the candidate’s discipline taught in English, and assistance with administration of the Japanese Section. Candidates with expertise in fields including Japanese literature, linguistics and language pedagogy, gender studies, and film and media studies are encouraged to apply. Near native proficiency in Japanese and English and college-level Japanese-language teaching experience are expected. The ideal candidate will have Ph.D. in hand at the time of the appointment; candidates at advanced ABD status may also be considered.
