*** this position has been closed, and no new applications will be accepted. ***

The Atlanta Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) program is an intensive, ten-week paid internship experience that blends data science and technology design. Students are placed on multi-disciplinary teams and matched with a supervising professor to address real-world problems for our partners in the City of Atlanta and local non-profit organizations. Additional mentorships will be provided by domain experts from partnering organizations and from the local data science and civic innovation community.

The goal of the DSSG program is to give students an opportunity to solve a real problem in a real context and to give partners an opportunity to tap the skills and ingenuity of a student team. Teams will comprise technical expertise and public policy expertise for a truly interdisciplinary approach. Problems will come from domains such as transportation, energy, smart urban development, sustainability, food systems, etc.

Applications are welcomed from students with backgrounds in computer science, statistics, applied math/optimization, interaction design, social sciences, or public policy.

The Atlanta DSSG program, now in its third year, is modeled after a highly successful program in Chicago started in Summer 2013. As such, participants will be part of an exciting network of students, mentors, professors and projects taking place around the United States.

The program will run from May 15 to July 21, 2017. Participants will receive a bi-weekly stipend for their work. Some travel, housing and living expenses may possibly be included. Terms will be defined upon offer into the program.
