The Department of Molecular, Cell and Cancer Biology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School ( is seeking an outstanding individual for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member at the Instructor level. The candidate must have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree, more than 5 years of postdoctoral research experience, and an outstanding publication record. The candidate will investigate the role of aberrant pre-mRNA processing in cancer and other diseases in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Green, M.D., Ph.D. A successful candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of pre-mRNA splicing and processing, with a focus on the mechanisms underlying selection of alternative cleavage and polyadenylation sites. An ideal candidate will have experience in performing a variety of molecular biology, biochemical and genetic assays including: quantitative real-time PCR; northern blotting; immunoblotting; RNA immunoprecipitation assays; and transcriptome profiling (RNA-Seq). Strong bioinformatics experience is essential.

In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: 1) A demonstrated ability to teach in the laboratory setting (graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and staff) and/or through the successful presentation of seminars; 2) A commitment to learn to write and submit competitive grant applications as PI or co-investigator under the oversight of the research mentor; 3) A desire and aptitude to move toward greater scientific independence through the initial development of collaborative research projects; and 4) Strong oral and written communications skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
