Description: This position represents one of four cluster hires as part of a substantial university investment (Discovery Theme) to significantly enhance cutting-edge research on infectious disease detection, treatment, and prevention (

Environmental Health Science (Open Rank, College of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health Sciences): Expertise characterizing environmental settings for presence or absence of potential pathogens, including mutagenic changes related to microbial resistance and persistence relative to the dynamics of host-pathogen interactions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, epidemiology of spread of emerging infectious agents and the ability of ecosystems to support human needs and to inhibit or encourage the spread of pathogens.

The Departments, Colleges, and University provide a generous start-up package and state-of-the-art core facilities both on the Columbus campus (where these positions will be located) and also at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster. OSU also offers a collaborative and collegial environment, multiple programs and centers focused on infectious disease research, and interdisciplinary graduate programs. Columbus offers diverse cultural and recreational opportunities, affordable housing, and excellent schools.


Successful candidates are expected to have or to develop an independent, interdisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program with extramural funding. They will also engage with a highly collaborative, trans-disciplinary community of scholars to develop innovative solutions to global emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent degree, postdoctoral training, a record of research excellence, and demonstrated expertise in one or more of the areas described above. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
